CDA engages parliamentarians, federal officials and parliamentary committees to advance practical, evidence-informed solutions that improve oral health in Canada. We assess how proposed policies may affect patients, dental practices and the delivery of care, and provide recommendations to strengthen Canada’s oral health system.

Our government relations work is ongoing and collaborative. CDA draws on the expertise of the dental profession, works closely with provincial and territorial dental associations and partners across the oral health sector, and maintains constructive relationships with decision-makers throughout the policy development process. We contribute to consultations, provide testimony to parliamentary committees, prepare policy submissions and briefing materials, and convene discussions on emerging oral health issues.

We monitor federal policy developments and work with partners to identify emerging challenges and opportunities affecting oral health and the dental profession. We combine evidence, data, policy analysis, clinical expertise and patient and dentist experiences to develop clear recommendations that decision-makers can act on.Through direct meetings, ongoing dialogue, written submissions, parliamentary committee engagement, and building coalitions with other stakeholders, we help decision-makers understand the practical implications of policy choices for patients and dentists.

Prevention is the foundation of a healthy smile

Good oral health starts with small, consistent habits. Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and making smart food choices can help you avoid cavities, gum disease, and other complications. Regular dental checkups are your best defense against costly and painful issues.
  • Brush for two minutes, twice a day, with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Floss daily to remove plaque and debris between teeth.
  • Eat a balanced diet and limit sugary snacks and drinks.
  • Chew sugar-free gum to help neutralize acids after meals.
  • Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and exams.
